The following projects have been approved for funding:
No. 2327: A grant of €10,000 was awarded for the purchase of medical equipment
for haematology services at Makadara Clinic, Nairobi, Kenya. The
clinic, operated by the Sisters of Mercy, serves a population of
260,000.
No. 2335: St. Bakhita Dispensary, Utawala, Kenya has received a grant of
€10,000 for a Home Health Care Programme which will serve many needs.
The home visitation will assist in identifying and helping those
individuals who are currently not accessing adequate health care. The
population of the area is 60,000.
No. 2338: A very poor area of Masaka, Uganda was in dire need of a vocational
school which would give children and young adults the opportunity of
acquiring skills which would give them the chance of earning a living
and improving their lives.
A grant of € 10,000 was provided.
No. 2339:
The Good Samaritan Sisters, Kampala, Uganda were awarded a grant of
€10,000 for a Pilot Goat and Food Producing project which will
benefit 65 people with disabilities.
No. 2340: Shortage of water is a perennial problem in Mukuru, Kenya. During
the dry season water becomes very scarce causing great hardship and
suffering to the people, also aiding the spread of disease. On the other
hand, there is no shortage of water during the heavy rain season. In
order to salvage the ‘rains’ for leaner times a grant of €10,000 was
provided for a Water Harvesting & Storage System. (Picture
below).
No. 2341: A project aimed at supporting women living with AIDS in Mozambique
through income generating was awarded a grant of €10,000.
Training will be provided for up to 120 women in clothes making,
knitting and embroidery.
No. 2342: A grant of €10,000 was approved for the provision of a Science
Laboratory at Pallotti Secondary School, Singida, Tanzania. There
are 263 students attending the school. This additional facility will
enable an increase in the number of students in an area where the demand
for places is high.
No. 2343: Financial support of €2,400 was provided to St. Agnes Secondary
School, Songea, Tanzania for the purchase of roofing material which
was badly needed for the Teachers’ House.
No. 2344: €10,000 was granted towards the cost of completion of a Community
Centre in Argentina. The centre will provide medical services,
education classes, act as a refuge for mothers and children because of
violence in the family. More than 800 people per month will benefit from
the services provided.
No. 2345: St. Francis of Assisi Educational Centre. Mbarara, Uganda is
dedicated to providing formal education for the young generation and
skills training for adults. The Fund provided a grant of €9,000 for
the purchase of school furniture, rainwater tanks and for the finishing
touches to a three classroom block.
No. 2346: A grant of €8,500 was approved for the provision of water for over
500 students at Nkwanta School, Ghana. The nearest source of water
was a good distance away which entailed students walking a long way in
search of water. The time lost hampered their learning and the provision
of water will go a long way to improve life for the students and
teachers.
No. 2348:
The increasing water borne diseases among school going children and too
much time wasted fetching water from sources far away from schools
resulted in the Diocese of Kitale, Kenya implementing a water
programme. A grant of €10,000 was approved for the provision of water
tanks at 10 village schools.
No. 2349: Following severe flooding in Isangi, Congo, most food crops were
destroyed. In order to allow the population affected by the floods
to recover and get back into production Caritas has targeted 60 families
for support by providing training and seeds. The Fund made a grant of
€7,000.
No. 2351: Idah, Nigeria will benefit from a Rainwater Harvesting project
which will serve a population of 2000. The main benefits will include
obviating the need to trek 10 kilometers each day to collect water,
reduction in water borne diseases, more time for study and work. The
Fund provided a grant of €9,000.
No. 2352: A Uterine Prolapse Reduction Programme in Nepal was awarded a grant
of €9,500 towards the overall cost of the programme. The project
will create awareness about the causes, prevention, treatment available
and provide preliminary treatment and surgical operations
No. 2353: The Coordinator for Education, Kisangani, Congo lacked a means of
transport to enable him to visit schools, parents and teachers.
There are 218 schools in the district which covers an area of 150,000
Km2. The Coordinator’s main task is the training of teachers. The
Fund granted €3,800 for the purchase of 2 motorcycles. |
